Guide Book
From NetCairns
Guide Books are central pages that link trails, bike shops, and blogs together and each page can be included in up to five Guide Books. Basically, Guide Books allow the NetCairns community to target specific areas and create collections of trails.
We created the Guide Book concept because we wanted to allow everyone who is interested in the NetCairns idea to create a landing page for their specific area. NetCairns is no longer confined to the Rocky Mountain region, trail users nationwide can now collaboratively create an online reference for their area.

[edit] Creating a Guide Book
Guide Books only require three descriptions, an infobox description, an introduction, and a detailed description. Users also have control over the zoom and position of the Google Map.
[edit] Infobox
The Infobox description will not be displayed on the Guide Book page itself but will be displayed on the main page when the link to your Guide Book is clicked. This should be limited to just a sentence or two.
[edit] Introduction
A general rule of thumb is that the Introduction should contain enough information that people can understand the geographic and philosophical parameters for your Guide Book; around three to four sentences.
[edit] Detailed Description
The Detailed Description is where the nitty gritty goes. Detailed descriptions can be as long as you like, but keep in mind that too much text tends to scare away your audience.
[edit] Map Settings
Users can adjust the center position and zoom of the maps on their Guide Books. The center poing is also the point that is also displayed on the main page. This can be adjusted and readjusted as your Guide Book grows and changes. The zoom allows you to specify the amount of area your Guide Book will cover. Usually between 9 and 11 is the sweet spot.
[edit] Conclusion
Keep in mind that because this site is a wiki, other people can change and edit your Guide Book as well as include additional trails or remove trails. No one person has editorial ownership over a specific Guide Book, Bike Shop, Blog, or User Profile.
