Betasso Preserve Loop

From NetCairns

Jump to: navigation, search

This ride is a Boulder favorite due to its proximity to town, gorgeous views, and exciting single track. As a result, there are many trail users and compromise is necessary. This ride is closed to bikers on Wednesday and Saturday. The riding direction for bikers is regulated to prevent congestion but it changes every month. Overall, the ride provides great single track without much effort to get there (unless you turn it into SuperBetasso).

This Ride can be done quickly and is an after work favorite. The middle of the day can be the best time but if your a working stiff, the trail is not too crowded.

Overview

From the trail head (upper left on map) you will see a sign designating which way you can ride on that day. Clockwise (left) will take you up and over a short hill to a long decent. Counterclockwise (right) will take you along some flat, then downhill. At the bottom, you'll wish you had paid for downhill upfront but the climb is still enjoyable. Just do another lap and it'll make the climb seem worth it.

This trail has great sections of smooth and twisty single track. Although short, it is some of the best out there in terms of pure fun. There are a couple of very small stream crossings (depending on the season) and a few short but tricky rock gardens. Beginners can have fun here by walking some of the more technical sections (there are only a few). More experiences riders can fly along this great trail. Just watch some of the blind corners for other riders and hikers.

Try Super Betasso to get 12.2 miles and 2300 feet of gain:

Getting There

Take Canyon road out of Boulder. Make a right on Sugerloaf. Follow it up and then make another right at a sign indicating Betasso Wildlife Preserve.
